Managing pupils

One of the mam ways in which children learn languages in the classroom is through taking part in activities. But this does not happen automatically As we saw in Children as Language Learners, we need to set up the conditions which will enable children to learn. We have an important role in creating these conditions and then managing what goes on m order to maintain those conditions These conditions are supported by:

  • positive teacher pupil relationships and learning environment
  • effective organization of pupils and resources
  • effective communication between teacher and pupils
  • appropriate support for children's language learning
  • interesting and stimulating learning materials and resources

For many teachers, when we talk about classroom management, discipline or classroom organization spring to mind. But an important part of managing classrooms is the development of effective teacher-pupil relations.
